When do the clocks change?

Daylight saving time moves clocks forward in spring and back in autumn, but the dates differ between regions. The United States and Canada change on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November. Most of Europe changes on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October. Australia and New Zealand change in the opposite season because they are in the southern hemisphere.

This page calculates the exact transitions for each listed zone in the year you choose, shows the local date and time when the clocks change, and highlights the next upcoming change in the list.

Reading the table

Clocks go forward means we lose an hour of sleep, and clocks go back means we gain one. The Shift column shows the size of the change, normally one hour. Zones such as Phoenix, Tokyo, Dubai and Singapore do not change their clocks, and the table can hide them with the checkbox above or show them with No change.

Rules change over time and some governments alter them with little notice. Your browser uses the IANA time zone database, so these dates follow the rules shipped with your browser version.

Planning around the change

Schedule meetings across regions carefully near the change dates, because the gap between two cities can shift by an hour for a few weeks when one switches before the other. Check the time zone converter or meeting planner on this site for exact overlaps. All calculations run on your device with no data requested from a server.

Remember to check devices that do not update automatically, such as some ovens, car clocks and older alarm clocks. Phones and computers adjust themselves using the same time zone data, but manual clocks need to be changed by hand on the night.
